Watersafety Dryland sessions with Whaea Nancy

Today Room 5 had our a Water safety Dryland session with Whaea Nancy. She was very interesting and shared fun games we'll be doing in the Watersafe lessons next term.
She gave us good ideas about not swimming in the local Wairoa awa because it's dirty and polluted. Her advice is if you go, make sure you go with someone older (ideally an adult), make sure someone knows you're there and don't jump in unless you've checked first.
Whaea Nancy said if you go to the beach or river this summer take a flotation device, towel to name a few things.
Whaea Nancy also said to use the scull technique to swim in a river.  She also said if you get into trouble at the beach or river to ring 111 and ask for the Fire Brigade who will direct you to the Ahipara Surf Life Rescue.

Ahipara Ag day 2021

This year we had a different Ag day compared to the usual.  Due to being in Alert Level 2, we couldn't have our pets come in to school like they usually would.  So we made a compromise where tauira (students) could take photos of their pet and write a story about them.  The other option was they could make a movie about their pet.

Every class made a variety of cool Ag day creations which were judged by our Teacher Aides instead of out of school volunteer judges.  Here are photos of creations Room 5 made together.  They did Biscuit decorating, made Recycled creatures/creations, Handwriting samples, Potato characters and Mural - Whakataukī (sayings) Art.
