Yesterday Matua Wiremu and his helpers Whaea Ange & Whaea Amy came to teach us Taonga Tākaro. They were awesome traditional Maori games using natural materials such as taiaha, rope, and rakau.
Here are some photos of some of us enjoying the games we played.
Kia ora Room 5, my name is Mr Ferguson and I am supporting Rooms 5 and 6 at Rutherford Junior High with their Cybersmart learning this year. I really like the fact that you guys have been learning about traditional Māori games. Your post reminded me of the fact that we have been learning how to play Ki o Rahi at our school - I wonder if this is similar to the games you’ve been playing? I look forward to reading more of your future blog posts! Ngā mihi nui, Mr Ferguson from Manaiakalani
