Mapere planting

On Tuesday 1st September Room 5, 7 and 11 walked down to the Mapere block in Ahipara and planted Spinifex and Flax.  We planted these plants to help save our local environment from erosion (the gradual destruction or diminution of something/ the process of eroding or being eroded by wind, water, or other natural agents).
Te Rarawa o Te Runanga (our local iwi) organised this planting with DOC (Department of Conservation). DOC brought the plants and helped promote this dune restoration programme. Our iwi organised a sausage sizzle for all of us which was delicious and they plant along with us.
My favourite part was working together because together we managed to plant 750 plants, which was awesome! I also enjoyed the Whanau meat sausages and the free pens given from DOC.
Next time I need to remember to take a hat because it was quite hot. Overall it was a great day and I can't wait until the next Mapere planting day!
